FAQ's

Q) Do you offer a reduction in rates, for families who own more than 1 dog?
A) Yes. Overnight boarding is £22 a night, per dog, or £35 a night for 2 dogs. Day care is £17 per dog, or £30 a day for 2 dogs.

Q) How many dogs do you take at once?
A) We have a licence from Fife Council, to board up to 4 dogs at any one time. We will assess the size of the dogs in question and decide how many at once is manageable. If large dogs are here, we would board 2 or 3 at the same time, whereas with small dogs it is very manageable to look after 4.

Q) What breeds do you take?
A) We accept most breeds, but cannot accept Giant Breeds, as this is not practical in our family home. We do not take breeds that have a reputation for being aggessive either. Also, we can't take dogs that bark excessively, as this upsets the other dogs here.

Q) Does my dog need to be up to date with Vaccinations?
A) Yes. Vaccinations must be up to date, as must worming and flea treatments. Kennel cough is not mandatory, but advised. We will take a copy of your vets card for our file.

Q) Are any of the dogs in your care aggressive?
A) No. All dogs are vetted and assessed before they stay here. As part of this assessment, they are placed in the company of other dogs and closely watched to see how they interact. If there is any sign of aggesssion, the dog will not be accepted for day care or boarding.

Q) What age can you take a dog from?
A) We can take a puppy from about 8 months. It is essential that they are fully house trained.

Q) How long do you walk for, and what do you do if the dogs in your care have different walking requirements?
A) Our morning walk is typically 4 miles long, taking around an hour. This takes place just after breakfast. If we have dogs in our care that cannot manage 4 miles, then either myself or Gav, will leave the walk early, and come home with the less able dogs, leaving the other to carry on with the able dogs.

Q) Where do the dogs sleep?
A) You should bring your dogs bed with you - this is familiar to them. If your dog sleeps in a crate, then please bring this also. Our preference, is for the dogs to sleep in our kitchen, and we have a baby monitor so that we can hear any movement or barking during the night (and react accordingly).

Q) Are the dogs ever left alone?
A) No. If errands are needing to be run (such as grocery shopping), I will do this when Gav is on his rest days, so that he can stay at home with the dogs. If ever Gav and I needed to attend something together, then we ask one of our adult children to "baby sit". This is very rare.

Q) How do you manage to feed multiple dogs, without there being arguments over food?
A) The dogs food bowls are prepared at the same time, however, dogs will be separated when they eat. There are a few reasons for this. If dogs are going to be possessive over anything, it's food! We cannot allow a situation to arise, whereby 1 dog tries to steal anothers food, as this could cause an argument. Also, some dogs eat quickly and others eat slowy. A slow eating dog needs to be given time and space to eat his meal, without the risk of it being stolen by another dog. On the ground floor of our house, we have the ability to feed all dogs in seperate rooms. Once all dogs have finished their food, the bowls will be lifted and washed in hot soapy water, ready for the next mealtime. Dogs from the same family, who eat together at home, can of course be fed together when they are here.

Q) Should I bring my dogs food with me?
A) Yes. It is better if Dogs stick to their regular diet, to avoid tummy upset.

Q) What else do I need to bring?
A) Please bring your Dogs bed. It is comforting, as it has their own scent on it.

Q) How do we pay our bill?
A) Your bill can be paid in cash or by bank transfer, on the day of check-in.

Q) What time can we check-in / check-out?
A) We are flexible, but will require a time from you, so that we can ensure we are at home when you arrive (not out walking). However, we cannot check in/out before 8am or after 6.45pm (dogs tend to bark when people arrive at our home, and we need to consider our neighbours).

Q) Do you take a deposit to secure a booking?
A) No. We trust that if you have to cancel your holiday, that you will give us sufficient notice, enabling us to release your dogs reservation, to another family. If you do cancel a holiday, the chances are that something upsetting has happened for you, and we would not wish to add to your misery by keeping money for which we have not provided a service.
